Four DSL Engineers qualify in CGFE 1

DSL, keen as ever to ensure that a broad portfolio of specialities can be delivered, has recently boosted its capability to carry out the installation and maintenance of commercial Combined Heat and Power units (CHP).

An example of Combined Heat and Power UnitThis was achieved when four additional engineers, namely Samantha Bage, Paul Horne, John Davis and James Crunden successfully completed and passed the commercial gas fuelled engine ACS CGFE 1. This particular ACS element, although essential for all gas operatives who carry out work on commercial CHP units, is not widely available through the conventional training and assessment centres.

This can be attributed to a number of factors, but primarily it is due to the fact that a) not many gas engineers wish to carry out this type of work, so the training and assessment market place is limited and b) commercial CHP units are expensive and diverse making it impractical for training and assessment establishments to install these appliances within their own premises.

Canterbury City Council, keen to promote training gave us free access to the engine at Kingsmead Leisure Centre in Canterbury for a day to enable the process to take place; we thank them for their hospitality.
